A weekend in London from King’s Cross

It’s accessible by Tube from King’s Cross St. Pancras with a straightforward connection. Day two: East London or a slower morning in the neighbourhood

Day two is where it splits, depending on the kind of visitor you are.

For those who want to see a different side of London, Shoreditch and the areas around Old Street are an easy Tube ride from King’s Cross. This is where a lot of the city’s independent creative and food scene concentrates: street art, markets, coffee shops, restaurants that don’t look like much from outside. It’s best experienced at a slower pace rather than a checklist. The Tube from King’s Cross St. Pancras to Old Street is direct on the Northern line.

For those who’d rather stay closer, Granary Square and the Regent’s Canal make for a genuinely good slower morning. The canal towpath west of King’s Cross takes you through Camley Street Natural Park and out towards the rest of the city at whatever pace you set. Coal Drops Yard is close by for a browse. Camden Town is reachable if you want something livelier.

For the second evening, the choice is between staying in the neighbourhood — Hokus Pokus rewards a second visit if you didn’t get through the whole cocktail list the night before — or heading to Soho or the South Bank, both of which are straightforward on the Tube and hold enough options for a late dinner or a show.
